Karting or Go-karting as it is unofficially known, Kart Racing is a form of racing which involves simple, small four-wheeled vehicles. These small vehicles depending on their design are called karts, go-karts, or gearbox/shifter karts. Kart racing is generally considered to be the most economic form of motorsport available. It is also commonly perceived as the stepping stone to the higher and more expensive ranks of motorsports.
But never take these machines lightly, as some karts may reach top speeds of about 160mph, called as Superkarts. Superkart apart, a Formula A kart with 2-stroke engine can accelerate from 0-60 mph in under 4.5 seconds and reach top speeds up to 85mph. It is also considered as leisure time sport that can be performed by almost anybody. It is usually used as a low-cost and relatively safe way to introduce drivers to motor racing. I believe, this is one sport which every auto enthusiast must try out once in his lifetime.
Some of the popular karting championships include European KF1 Championship, Karting World Championship and Junior Monaco Kart Cup. Held annually in a different country, Karting World Championship is considered as the flagship event of the Kart Racing world.
