Off-Roading- Dune Bashing, Mud Bogging and Rock Crawling

Dune bashing involves driving over sand dunes. It’s very popular in the US and mid-east countries. Two of the most popular destinations In the US are iSilver Lake Sand Dunes in Michigan and the Imperial Sand Dunes in California.

Mudding involves driving through wet mud holes or clay without getting stuck. For this sport, 4WDs are equipped with special mud-terrain tires which are huge both in terms of width and diameter. Two important factors to drive through mud-holes without getting stuck are traction and momentum.

Rock crawling is a more technical type of off-roading sport. Vehicles used are fitted with larger tires, suspension components that allow greater axle articulation, and gear ratio to provide high torque. Drivers negotiate through rocky terrain. This is one of the extreme forms of off-roading.
