World Touring Car Championship

World Touring Car Championship, WTCC, as it is shortly called is one among the most important and eventful car races in the world. It is regarded as the third most important FIA championship after Formula One and the World Rally Championship.

The first WTCC was held in the year 1987, and then it was held simultaneously with the European Touring Car Championship (ETCC). Later it gained immense popularity and was a victim of its own success with FIA stopping the championship, fearing that it would take money away from Formula 1. But soon after, in the year 2001, ETCC was resumed which was later renamed as WTCC in 2005 at the request of interested manufacturers.

With the support of major car manufacturers like BMW, Chevrolet, SEAT and Alfa Romeo, the race is held at major prestigious circuits. The race features compact and midsize cars that fall between slightly modified super production cars and the extinct super touring class. Being the next most popular race after F1 and WRC, WTCC attracts car enthusiasts from all over the world.
