BMW has commenced, what it claims is the first range of motorcycles that can be ordered, for a premium, with a lowered suspension to decrease the seat height. Feedback from shorter riders has confirmed a need for seats to be even lower than the already-available option, says the bike maker. Such riders have expressed that they would feel more secure with both feet firmly on the ground, especially in city traffic.
The BMW motorcycles in which the lowered suspension offer is currently available are the F800S and ST bikes. The seat height is brought down from the standard 840 mm to 760 mm. This option, launched in 2007, has been ordered by 45% of the buyers.
Other models that can be ordered with lowered suspension or as ‘lowriders’ are the F800ST, the Naked R1200R Roadster, R1200RT Tourer and the new F650GS and R1200GS Enduros.
